My Daily Skincare Routine

I grew up watching my mom use Noxema and Seabreeze astringent to wash her face. I remember the first time I washed my face with Noxema while in middle school and thinking to myself, “Omigod, this burns!!!” and racing to wash it off as fast as I could. After a sweaty cheerleading or tennis practice, I would use those Oxy brand alcohol-infused pads to clean my face. My beauty regime back then wasn’t very elaborate. Now and again, one of my friends would host a Mary Kay party where we would get at-home facials and have the opportunity to buy some skincare products like cleanser, toner, and face masks. That’s when I started to get more interested in skincare products and what they can do for my skin, and I’ve been experimenting with different skincare lines and products ever since.

To this day, my daily skincare routine remains pretty simple, and I’m excited to share it with you today!

In the morning, I wash my face with Murad’s Acne Clarifying Cleanser which has 1.5% Salicylic Acid in it as an acne treatment. My skin ranges from normal to slightly oily, and this cleanser helps strip away the oil and grime that builds up over time. In addition, this cleanser is also formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates – chemicals found in beauty products that may be harmful to your body. You can read more about them here

Lately, I’ve been trying to be more conscious of what ingredients are in the skincare products that I use, and this conscious cleanser has been a great addition to my regimen.

Once my face is washed, I use a quarter-size amount of Hang Ten’s Mineral Body Sunscreen, SPF 30 to cover my face, ears, neck, and the top of my chest. This non-greasy formula is great for my sometimes oily skin. I let my face rest for at least 5-10 minutes before putting any makeup on (that routine is for another post!).

Being the makeup lover that I am, at the end of the day I have to take it off and let my face breaaathe. If I’m wearing a light amount of makeup, then I squirt T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Astringent onto a cotton round and swipe the cotton round all over my face to remove the makeup (BTW – this witch hazel is 100% natural AND made in the USA). It works like a charm. If I have a full-face of makeup on, then I love using Trader Joe’s Certified Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to get the layers of eye makeup off. Those nights I actually use these baby wipes to remove my makeup (they’re so much cheaper than the makeup remover wipes at the store!).

Before bed, I love using my Clarisonic Mia 2 Speed Facial Sonic Cleansing Brush (the gray one!) to really clean deep down into my pores and get the day’s grime out of my face. An added bonus of exfoliating like this is getting rid of old skin cells that dull your complexion.

Once my makeup is completely off, then I massage a small amount of Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate around my eyes to help fight puffiness and aging around the eyes (tip – your eyes have the thinnest skin around them and will show signs of aging first!).

Next, I’ll put 2-3 drops of Vitamin C serum on each of my cheeks and rub it all over my face to help boost collagen production. Recently, I’ve been using Om Aroma & Co’s Pumpkin Serum and absolutely love the results I’m seeing from it – my face looks and feels smoother, brighter, and it helps fight hyperpigmentation, too.

If any breakouts pop up, I spot treat them with Murad’s Acne Spot Treatment that has benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient that is powerful and non-irritating #forthewin.

Face Masks

Fun fact: I’m overly obsessed with face masks. There are so many different kinds, and I love putting one on while in my robe, wet hair in a towel, while getting ready for bed. It’s the little things in life, right? The great thing about face masks is that there’s so many different kinds! Need a good exfoliating sesh? There’s a mask for that. Want to moisturize after a change in weather leaves your skin feeling dry? You bet there’s a mask for that, too!

Right now, I’m crushing so hard on Lush cosmetics. My neighbor gifted me the Dark Angels face and body cleanser, and it worked so well, I had to learn more about the brand. Well, I did my research, and here’s where all the crushing comes from. Not only do they offer a free product when you bring in 5 empty mask pots, but they also ethically source the ingredients, all products are handmade, and Lush hires women transitioning back into work from being at home raising their children. Talk about empowering women. I LOVE THIS BRAND SO MUCH! I can’t wait to try the Cup O’ Coffee and Catastrophe Cosmetic masks both with ingredients that sound delicious enough to eat!

Toning Sprays

After an intense group fitness class or gym workout, it feels soo good to mist a nice lavender spray across your face (besides that awkward second when you’re anticipating the spray hitting your face, am I right?!). I have a travel-size Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist that goes in my gym bag with me, and then I also have Om Aroma & Co’s Lavender Toning Mist that I enjoy putting on right after taking a shower. Both are lavender scented and instantly make me feel refreshed after a couple sprays.

There you have it – those are my daily morning and evening skincare routines. How does your skincare routine compare to mine? What products are you loving right now? I’m always on the lookout for natural ingredient products that do a great job at whatever it is they’re supposed to do!
