February, where did you go? I know it’s always the shortest month, but man, did it fly by! I’m smiling to myself right now thinking about all the good things that happened this month: I got all of my flights for March-July travel booked, celebrated my birthday with friends and an open bar at one of my favorite NYU bars (I won it by putting my biz card in a drawing!), hosted my first Ed. Tech Meetup event, just to name the biggest highlights!
Now, let’s take a peek at what my actual February goals were:
February Goals Review
- Wake up at 5:15am at least 3 out of the 5 weekdays to blog.
- Publish a new blog post at least 3 times a week.
- Increase Instagram following from 178 to 225.
- Only eat out for lunch once a week.
- Meal prep every Sunday.
- Actually down-size my wardrobe (whatever doesn’t sell on eBay is going to thredUp/getting donated).
- Enjoy a Broadway show for my birthday.
While I started the new year off waking up early to blog, this month I just didn’t. I think it happened a total of like 2 times. I’ve been staying up later and watching Netflix with my boyfriend (he loves it when I stay up late so we can watch a show together), which I enjoy, but knowing that I need at least 7 hours of sleep, I haven’t been getting up at 5:15am to blog. I’m hoping that this month, I can find more balance and stick to a more thought-out schedule. With that in mind, I only published 6 blog posts in February, which is half the amount that I want to be posting (#goalfail). Having a solid social media plan helped me with increasing my Instagram following. I’m not looking to become “Insta Famous,” so growing slowly and authentically is working for me. I’m still in the process of selling a bunch of my clothing items, but one fun way that I’m going to get rid of some items is by doing a clothing swap with a handful of my colleagues this week (I love that I work with a bunch of ladies around my age!).
Because I won a free open bar and had a bunch of friends go out for my birthday, which was on a Friday, the next day I was a couch potato most of the day. However, this story is going to go somewhere unexpected! My boyfriend’s friend invited us out to dinner, and I was so sluggish that I told Cesar that I probably wasn’t up for it. So, we decided to go to Target to grab a few things we needed, and right next door is a liquor store. I decided that I wanted to grab a bottle of wine for a quiet night in binge-watching something (we had been watching the series Lie to Me). We go into the liquor store, I sample a few delicious Italian wines, find a couple bottles to purchase, go to the check-out counter at the back of the store, and I hear this faint music in the background behind the wall. I asked the cashier what was behind the wall, and he was like, “Oh, you don’t know what’s behind here?” Clearly not, lol. So he rings me up and then takes us back behind the counter, through an employees-only door, and it opens up into a hookah lounge with a nightclub attached to it. Turns out, the guy that took us back there was the owner, and he gave us a complimentary drink! We ended up ordering a dessert to celebrate my birthday, which was mouth-watering delicious. The owner came back around and told us to come back around 10pm, when the place starts to fill up.
We ended up calling Cesar’s friend who agreed to go to the hookah lounge for dinner and drinks. About an hour later, Cesar’s friends picked us up at our apartment, and we made our way back to the hookah lounge. We ended up staying there all night, dancing and closing the place down. Guys, there was a man standing on top of the bar matching the EDM beats with his saxophone! Unbelievable talent. Now, did I ever think that I would be celebrating my birthday weekend at a hookah lounge/club? Maybe in my early 20s, but not in my late ones. Cheers to unexpected fun!
Anyway, back to goals. Looking back at my February goals, I feel a bit embarrassed that I didn’t hit more of my goals. My blogging goals were achievable. I can give you a handful of reasons why they didn’t happen, but at the end of the day, I lacked consistency. I’m determined to shake this variability that I’ve been feeling, and to get back on the determined, consistent train. Let’s see what I have in mind for March:
- Wake up at 5:15am on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays to write for my blog.
- Publish 3 blog posts a week.
- Try one new recipe.
- Keep my planner/Trello updated + use it everyday.
- Be in the moment during our trip to Orlando’s Universal Studios + the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
I’m taking a more specific approach to March’s goals (there’s less room for excuses this way). Like I mentioned above, I’m also going on a trip to Orlando’s Universal Studios + the Wizarding World of Harry Potter the last weekend in March. To say that I’m excited is an understatement. Having grown up with Harry Potter and spending countless hours wrapped up in J.K. Rowling’s wizard world, this is going to be such a fun experience, I really want to take it all in while I’m there.
The end of March will be the end of the first quarter of the year – it always seems to fly by for me. What’s your top priority for the month of March – sticking to a routine, budget, making time for yourself, or what? Share in the comments below.
